Arthur Thompson

Arthur Lee Thompson, Sr. (born June 30, 1964 in Tulsa, Oklahoma) is a drummer,
percussionist, singer, producer, songwriter, author, designer, and entrepreneur.  Arthur, the ninth
of twelve brothers and sisters, started his professional music career at the age of fifteen. Arthur
has two daughters, Romeca Fairue and Lesle Belcer, and a son, Arthur Jr.

At age 4, brother Jesse taught Arthur his first beats.  Since then,  Arthur has been playing
drums. Perhaps best known as drummer for the late, great Wayman Tisdale, he has also recorded
and performed with bassist Marcus Miller, singer-songwriter Toby Keith and saxophonist Tom
Braxton. For over thirty years. Arthur has contributed to a variety of music genres and uses his
drums as an instrument for positive change. Known as the Drumming Man, Arthur teaches children
how to play Djembes, Tubanos and other African instruments. He has touched thousands of lives
around the country by using African hand drums as a catalyst to help individuals heal, both
spiritually and physiologically.  Deeply moved by the realities faced by at-risk children, as well as
the drastic reduction of music education and arts programs in schools, Arthur created Math &
Music©, a curriculum that relates basic mathematical concepts with musical notes and scales
incorporating repetitive auditory memorization skills. This rhythmic approach to learning uses
animated characters and makes counting, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division fun for
children! Arthur has designed tunable tubano drums to accompany his Math & Music© curriculum.
These enhance the experience and give schools the opportunity to invest in quality Remo
instruments. In addition to designing drums, Arthur designs clothing, which will soon be offered
through his clothing line, ARTHURIZED™. Arthur also created and directs an African dance troupe,

A Taste of Africa
, to introduce people to the African diaspora.

Arthur believes everyone is talented and their talents should be identified and cultivated
early in life. This was the impetus for creating the Arthur Thompson Community Theater
Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.  Arthur believes “providing a place where children
can go and get off of the streets is my goal in creating this community foundation.....music is
universal and has a way of touching people on every level; what better way is there than to weave
music with positive messages through various community programs that will ultimately help
children identify and use their talents constructively.”  He also serves as a director and founding
partner in the Promises for Families Foundation, which provides summer camps and school
programs for children and youth with an incarcerated parent.

“None will be lost and all of our children in every walk of life can make a difference in this
world through music and education.” --Arthur Thompson
