BIOGRAPHY

Arthur Thompson isn’t just a drummer—he’s a sonic architect. A Tulsa native now based in Nashville, Arthur has built a career that blurs the lines between musician, educator, entrepreneur, and humanitarian. With rhythm in his veins and purpose in his soul, he’s a one-man movement inspiring audiences around the globe.

Best known for his deep groove and infectious energy, Arthur made waves as the drummer for the late jazz icon Wayman Tisdale. He later joined forces with Toby Keith, Marcus Miller, and Dave Koz on the Grammy-nominated track “Cryin’ for Me,” a heartfelt tribute to Tisdale. Today, Arthur lights up stages worldwide alongside powerhouse saxophonist Mindi Abair and is a fan-favorite performer aboard the annual Dave Koz & Friends at Sea cruise.

But Arthur’s artistry goes far beyond the stage. He’s a songwriter, producer, vocalist, and creative visionary, constantly evolving his sound and message. His latest tracks—”Smile,” “We Can BEAT Cancer,” “Oasis,” and “I’m Free”—blend smooth jazz with soul and storytelling, earning him the title of Smooth Jazz Network’s Breakout Artist of the Year (2023).

Offstage, Arthur is just as impactful. He founded Math & Music©, an innovative curriculum that uses rhythm to teach core math concepts, empowering students from Oklahoma to Uganda. Through programs like Drums Speak and Build a Life, Save a Life©, Arthur channels his passion for music and education into real-world change—energizing kids, uplifting communities, and redefining what it means to be a teaching artist.

A longtime advocate for youth and mental health, Arthur continues to use his platform for purpose. His “We Can BEAT Cancer” campaign—featuring Dave Koz and Erin Stevenson—raises funds and hope for cancer research, while his upcoming initiative, “It’s OK to Not Be OK,” aims to spark vital conversations around mental wellness.

Arthur Thompson is more than a musician. He’s a force. An artist with heart. A rhythm-maker with a mission. And he’s just getting started.
